SSESE ISLANDS, KALANGALA DISTRICT, LAKE VICTORIA, UGANDA

What a great escape.

Ssese Islands located in L. Victoria is a wonderful place for one to relax, away from the stress of daily living. The journey commences aboard a ferry which connects the main land to the islands via Nakiwogo landing site situated in Entebbe.

While on the ferry, one is met with breathtaking views of the lake with clear blue skies followed by a massive expanse of water to no end.

One is simply amazed by the beautiful water waves that reflect the color of the sky.

At a glance, one can see other surrounding islands, clearly not marked as one of our destinations. From a far, one can assume that these islands are inhabited however this can not be confirmed. This will be an adventure for another day.

Upon arrival at Ssese islands,  we are met with scenic views of trees indigenous to the area, an exquisite shoreline and friendly locals offering assistance to find lodgings.

The resort where I stayed had a wonderful beach which was aligned with a lovely view of the lakeside.

A magnificent sunset lit up the evening skies as the day came to an end.

The following morning, one wakes up to a magnificent sunrise above the trees.

Over the lake, the waters are lively, welcoming you to a new day.

As one travels across the island, fields of palm trees encompass the roads on each side. Far ahead, one can view the beautiful shoreline that borders this island.

At the landing site, fishing boats align the beach as fishermen rest from their activities since they fish mostly at night.

Other fishermen prepare their fishing nets for the night to come as they look forward to continuing their work  the night to come.

Many boats are parked on the beach awaiting a new night of fishing.

That evening, a camp fire was organized by one of the locals to welcome visitors displaying the hospitality of residents of Ssese Islands.

As one leaves the island the next morning, one is overwhelmed by the serene beauty of the island.

I sail away well rested and content that my trip was worth it.

Good bye Ssese, until next time.
